Our Story

The name Martin Henry was selected in memory of Dan's late grandfather-an infectiously positive and rugged individual who made an impact on all those he met in his ninety-nine years of life. A special blend - "OL99" - has been created in honor of the business's namesake.

The spirit of Dan’s grandfather, Martin Henry Wolf (1896-1996) lives on in the company's approach to its business and customer service: "To build relationships on a daily basis, one customer at a time, through exceptional service, the finest quality products available and always striving to have minimal impact on the environment."

Martin Henry chooses not to follow the ‘herd’ into the sea of sameness but to chart their own pathway exploiting their creativity bringing new and innovative ideas to grow their business and to create customer loyalty.

Dan and Debi Bennett became involved in the coffee industry in 1989. They started out with an espresso cart and watched their business out grow their location. Four years later they opened three coffee shops in the greater Seattle area. Over time they watched the coffee roasting industry change; as companies grew, they sacrificed quality in the name of progress. Dan and Debi’s tireless pursuit of perfection led them to roast for themselves as well as for other wholesale coffee establishments with the same high standards. Endless research and guidance from experts in the industry helped to develop their skills, while passion for product excellence helped to develop a new standard for specialty coffee. In 1998 they sold two of their coffee shops, changed their name, and opened their coffee roasting facility. Dan and Debi’s intensive retail oriented background helps their growing customer base maintain a unique point of difference.

Dan and Debi have traveled throughout the world to visit in person the growers and plantations that provide the highest quality beans for Martin Henry. Believing in the social, environmental, and economic benefits of sustainable business leads Martin Henry to not only support coffee farms that are committed to the well being of their workers, land and water, it compels us to be a sustainable business in our own community. Creating relationships with coffee farmers allows us to roast and provide coffee with the finest cup quality, confident that these farms and communities will continue for generations. To this end, they support Café Femenino whose mission is to enhance the lives of women and children in coffee producing communities throughout the world.
